The member of National Academy of Sciences(美国科学院院士).Department of Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases Research, The Irell and Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences, Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope.

Dr. Riggs is one of the most important founding scientists of modern epigenetics.

Dr. Riggs’ invention of recombinant insulin (Humalin) has been used in clinic for more than 20 years and has saved thousands of diabetic patients’ life as well as jump-started modern biotechnology industry such as Genentech.

His invention of humanized antibody technology is also saving thousands of cancer patinents’ life.His patent loyalty brings $250 million a year to City of Hope and facilitates the rapid development of City of Hope in the recent year.

Defu Zeng授简介

Defu Zeng, MD,Professor,Departments of Diabetes Immunology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Irell & Manella Graduate School of Biological Sciences of City of Hope. The Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope
City of Hope National Medical Center.

The research in Dr. Zeng’s lab has been focused on transplantation immune tolerance. Dr. Zeng’s lab has been dissecting the pathogenesis of acute and chronic graft versus host disease (GVHD), separating graft versus leukemia/lymphoma (GVL) effect from GVHD, and developing a radiation-free GVHD preventative regimen for induction of mixed chimerism for the cure of autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and systemic lupus.

Dr. Zeng’s research is supported by NIH R01 grants and foundations and private donations.

Dr. Zeng has published more than 60 research articles in high impact journals, including Science Translational Medicine, Proceedings of National Academy of Science (PNAS), Journal of Experimental Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Blood, Diabetes, and Journal of Immunology.
